Source abstract
Adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivorship represents a distinct and critically understudied phase of the survivorship continuum. When a cancer diagnosis occurs in this unique life phase, biological, psychological, and social domains are severely impacted. However, these factors are not often comprehensively integrated across clinical, research, and policy settings. Guided by the Life Course Development framework, this perspective piece synthesizes evidence across these domains to highlight the unique survivorship experiences of AYAs. Implementing an approach grounded in developmental science provides opportunities to support progress in AYA survivorship while reducing existing survivorship gaps for this growing group of cancer survivors.
